Canton Man Dies Of Heart Attack After Pit Bull Attack

A pit bull attack in East Texas on Thanksgiving left one dead of a heart attack and one person seriously injured.

Witnesses told police that on Thursday night two pit bulls escaped from their home a few miles outside of Canton, Texas, ran into a neighbor’s yard, and attacked their dog. The owner of the dog ran into the yard to save her pet, but was attacked by the two pit bulls, fell to the ground, and received a head injury that needed medical attention.

The woman’s son-in-law then entered the fray and the dogs were separated by the time Van Zandt County Sheriff deputies, police, and emergency responders arrived at the scene. Authorities say that the one pit bull was stabbed by the son-in-law, while another was shot by police. At some point, another person was bitten by one of the pit bulls. Finally, after the attack, the son-in-law died at the scene of the accident of a heart attack.

The surviving dog was handed over to Animal Control.
