Avoiding a Head-On Crash
Head-on collisions are some of the most deadly that you can be involved in. When two vehicles run into each other head-on, the force is the equivalent of their combined speed. If, for example, you are traveling 50 miles per hour and hit another vehicle traveling 50 miles per hour, the combined force would be the equivalent of striking a fixed object at miles per hour. As you may have guessed, this makes these accidents particularly dangerous. There will be cases where you cannot avoid one of these wrecks. Sometimes, however, you do have a chance if you know what to do.
Drifting Drivers
Drivers who are drifting toward you when you are on a two-lane road, or a bigger road that doesn't have a median are always terrifying. Sometimes, you will actually have time to react to a driver doing this. The most intelligent thing you can do in this situation is to remove yourself from the path of the vehicle. This may mean pulling over to the side of the road or it may mean turning off the road onto a side road, if possible. The one thing you do not want to do is wait too long.
In some cases, you won't have much time to react at all. In these cases, you generally need to swerve out of the way. A skill that you might want to practice is looking where your car is going instead of looking at the car you're trying to avoid hitting. While you might not be aware of it, you instinctively go in whatever direction you are looking whenever you are driving a vehicle. When you are trying to avoid a vehicle that is coming right at you, look at your escape route, not at the vehicle you are trying to avoid. If you look at the vehicle, you're quite likely to head straight toward it without even being aware of it.
Some of the drivers who cause head-on collisions are negligent, drunk or some combination of the two. Contact a car accident lawyer in Dallas to see if you might have the option of filing a lawsuit in the event you are hit by such a driver. Sometimes, an accident attorney will be able to get a jury award for you or get a settlement from the other driver that could help you pay for the property that you lost and your medical expenses due to the accident.
