Dallas Car Wreck Attorney | Rainy, Night Conditions are Not a Driver's Friend

Rainy, Night Conditions are Not a Driver's Friend

Sometimes, you'll end up having to put on some miles when the conditions are far less than optimal. Some of the worst types of conditions that you can end up driving in are rainy conditions. In rainy conditions, you won't have the same visibility or the same stopping distance that you would under normal conditions. When you're driving at night and there's rain, the conditions are even more dangerous for anyone behind the wheel.

In the City

The hardest thing to deal with in the city, for many drivers, is the fact that the driving conditions tend to be made worse by the fact that the lights can create confusing reflections on the ground. This can make it hard to judge where intersection lines start and where the lanes are on the road. As a general rule of thumb, if you can't clearly see where you're going, slow down. It's much easier to deal with these types of problems at a slower speed than it is to deal with them when you're going fast. Be wary of intersections. People will sometimes come barreling through them because they underestimated how slippery the roads are.

In the Country

On roads where the water collects in the tire depressions in the lane, hydroplaning is a real hazard. Your vehicle hydroplanes when it hits a patch of water and when the water lifts the tire off the road. This can happen to any vehicle, no matter how off-road the tires may be and no matter how heavy the vehicle might be. To avoid this happening, you have to slow down and try to avoid driving in the deepest part of the lane. Give yourself some extra leeway where speed is concerned going around corners. If you happen to be on a motorcycle, you need to slow down even more to round corners safely.

If You're Hurt

When people don’t slow down for conditions and hurt someone, they can sometimes be found to have been negligent in court. If you were injured by a negligent driver, you can contact a car wreck lawyer for assistance. Be aware that being hit doesn't automatically mean that you have a case. Accidents can and do happen. If someone was negligent, however, there are ways that you can seek compensation for your pain and suffering. Contact a Fort Worth car accident attorney to see if you have a case that might be convincing to a jury.
