Dallas Daycare Law Firm | Reasons to Avoid Home Daycare

Day care services that are provided out of an individual's home are generally a bad idea for most parents and, especially, for most children. If you haven't been able to think of a reason why you might want to avoid these services, the following five reasons may be compelling to you.

Lacking Qualifications

A daycare worker is required to go through quite a bit of training before they're actually qualified to work in their state. There are good reasons for this. Taking care of other people's children is much different than taking care of your own and, without the requisite skills and training, you're inviting disaster.

Lacking Facilities

A daycare facility that is fully licensed by the state is required to undergo inspections on a regular basis. One that is not, of course, may not be up to the standards necessary to keep children safe.

Too Many Children

A licensed day care facility will have an established maximum amount of children that are allowed to be in the building. This is not true of home daycare providers who operate under the table. It can create real dangers to your children.

Lack of Recourses

If you discover daycare abuse in a licensed facility, you have plenty of options to seek help. In the case of an unlicensed facility, the person providing the care may be in trouble, but that doesn't mean that you have any way of seeking compensation from them, as you are voluntarily taking a bad risk.

Lack of Background Checks

At a licensed facility, it's common for the administration to advertise the security they offer parents. A big part of this is providing background checks for all of the staff at the facility. At an unlicensed facility, it's very unlikely that any of this goes on. This means you have no idea about who has contact with your children and whether or not they're safe.

Abuse in daycare can oftentimes be avoided by just exercising some common sense. An unlicensed facility is a very high-risk option. If you have been wronged by such a facility, consider contacting an attorney to see if you can sue for damages. Unlike a professional facility, however, a facility that operates under the table will not be likely to have insurance to cover things such as lawsuits or, unfortunately, any injuries that your child may suffer due to negligence.
