Dallas Jury Awards $7.2 Million to Bus Accident Injury Victim

An injury victim has been awarded $7.2 million in damages following a Texas personal injury trial involving Greyhound.

Four years ago, Ashley Reedy was traveling on a Greyhound bus when it crashed in Wheeler County on Interstate 40. At the time of the bus accident, the driver was attempting to slow down for another accident on the road. However, an investigation into the crash found that the bus driver was talking on his cell phone at the time of the accident and did not maneuver the bus in an appropriate manner in the seconds before the crash. The Texas car accident attorneys also found that the bus driver had been cited for speeding three separate times shortly before being hired by the national passenger bus company.

Reedy suffered from head injuries, back injuries, and neck injuries when the bus drove off of the road and rolled over. She was awarded $2.2 million in damages and $4.8 million in punitive damages by a Dallas jury. Her attorneys stated that the money will not only allow Reedy to have a badly-needed lower back surgery, but it will also send a clear message to bus companies about the consequences of hiring irresponsible drivers.
