A Dallas man drowned in Lewisville Lake this week while spending an afternoon swimming with friends and family. According to the Denton Record-Chronicle, 41-year-old Gustavo Terrones was on a raft with his relatives when a current took the party far out past the designated swimming area. While the party tried to paddle back, the current prevented them. Terrones tried to swim back to shore to get help for his wife, but became fatigue and shouted for help. His wife attempted to pull the man onto her raft, but failed.
Relatives pulled the man from the water and began CPR on Lake Park Road, but when paramedics transported the man to a Lewisville Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
While swimming is a popular summer activity in Texas, it can be very dangerous.
Safety experts warn swimmers to stay within swimming buoys, swim at beaches and pools equipped with lifeguards, and not to use floatation devices as prevention against drowning.
