Dallas Police Officer Dies Of Head Injury 14 Years After Pedestrian Accident

According to the Dallas News Crime Blog, 47-year-old Dallas Police Officer Kevin Marceau died this week of complications from a head injury he received 14 years ago. At the time of the pedestrian accident, he was responding to a car accident while off-duty.

In 1996, while working for a private security company, Marceau saw a hit-and-run car accident occur across the street. When he ran to apprehend the driver who was attempting to leave the scene of the crash, he was struck by an oncoming car. Though medical professionals were able to save his life, the police officer suffered a severe brain injury that left him in a wheelchair and unable to communicate for the rest of his life.

While Marceau was able to leave the hospital after a year of recovery, his life after the car accident was difficult. His wife divorced him soon after his head injury and his ongoing struggle with language was understandably frustrating. However, his parents involved him in every activity and vacation they took in the last decade and a half, and his parents say that being a police officer was his life-long dream.
