Could your child be under the care of a
daycare worker who has been accused of
sexually inappropriate relations with minors? An investigation into the Dallas Independent School District shows that inappropriate sexual behavior between teachers and minors is often kept quiet and often does not have serious consequences.
The Dallas Morning News reports that there have been over 20 cases of
sexual misconduct within the Dallas school system in the last five years and almost 200 sexual misconduct investigations – but that although teachers may lose state certification, they are often
hired as daycare workers, church group mentors, or private school teachers. In many cases, teachers resign instead of being fired and quietly move on to other jobs with children.
Many are left wondering – why are we protecting the privacy of teachers who commit sexual acts with their students even if they are charged and convicted? Should we allow those with a history of sexually inappropriate behavior with minors to continue working with youth?
