Accident or Daycare Child Abuse?

Daycare Child AbuseAccusing someone of being abusive to children is something that nobody in their right mind wants to do unless they're reasonably certain that it's true. Day care child abuse can be concealed in many different ways. As a parent, you'll want to know some of the most common ways that this is done to make sure that your child isn't being taken advantage of or abused by anyone at their daycare facility.

1. Discipline

Children need boundaries; everyone knows that. Having an environment with healthy boundaries fosters social skills and makes sure that children don't end up getting hurt. There are cases, however, where various forms of abuse are passed off as discipline. The hardest type to detect is psychological abuse. Psychological abusers do tend to single out children for the worst of their abuses, If your child feels picked on more than usual—a lot of children claim that they are when they just get caught doing something wrong—be sure to listen to them. If it happens all the time, there may be something going on that's not healthy for the child.

2. Play Accidents

Sometimes, children will end up hurting themselves while they're playing. Bruises, scrapes and cuts are pretty common outcomes of childhood adventures; most of us have had stitches at least once as a child. If this happens too often, however, the child may be being physically abused or simply not being supervised enough while playing.

3. Humiliation

Sometimes, abusive individuals will break down children's self-esteem for whatever sick reason they make up to justify it. If your child suddenly develops a complex about their weight, their height, their appearance or their abilities, ask them if someone's been giving them a hard time about it. If it's a daycare worker, you're looking at a problem that has to be dealt with.

Daycare abuse doesn't just mean sexual or physical abuse. It sometimes means hurting a child mentally and these injuries do leave scars. If a daycare facility doesn't address these issues, that can be considered negligence and you may want to speak to a lawyer about the issue to see if there is a lawsuit that you could file. If there is, you may be entitled to compensation from a jury award or from a settlement. Consult with a lawyer to see what they think about the matter and how they advise that you proceed to address it.
