Fiery Tanker Crash Closes I-30 West Of Downtown Dallas
Hazardous materials crews reported to the scene of a big rig crash on Interstate 30 outside of downtown Dallas on Friday after a tractor-trailer carrying fuel crashed into the median, spilled gasoline and diesel, and burst into flames.According to the Dallas Star-Telegram, the truck accident was initially caused by a car that switched lanes into an 18-wheeler, which in turn crashed into a second commercial truck. The accident, which occurred at approximately 2 AM on Friday morning, closed I-30 as emergency responders transferred three drivers to the hospital with minor injuries and attempted to contain the hazardous materials leaking from the second big rig.
While the fire was quickly contained and put out, hazmat teams were not able to stop some fuel from running off into a nearby creek. The Environmental Protection Agency Stormwater Program will investigate whether or not Coombs Creeks suffers from any contamination following the truck accident.
Authorities said that all lanes of I-30 had reopened by 5 AM Friday morning in time for the Dallas commute.
