Fort Worth Car Accident Attorney | Three Things You Should Never Do on the Road

All of us lose our tempers with other drivers sometimes. There are some things that drivers do that are genuinely bad ideas in these situations, however. In some cases, they actually ascend to the level of negligence and you could find yourself facing a Fort Worth car accident attorney in court if you cause an accident doing them.

It’s tempting to tap your brakes to warn a tailgater off sometimes. The problem with this is that they may not notice that you hit your brakes and you could get rear ended. The thing you want to consider before doing this is that you are deliberately presenting a hazard to another driver to try to change their behavior. Whether or not you think they deserve it, it’s not a good idea. They may not see the hazard, and you may end up in a bad wreck because of it.

Flashing Your Brights

When someone comes at you with their brights on, it’s natural to get annoyed. Especially with today’s headlights, they can be blinding. The right thing to do is to concentrate on the stripe on the right side of the road and to avoid staring into their headlights. This prevents you from getting blinded. Flashing your brights at them may blind the other driver. You never know how they may react to this. If they’re drunk, they may veer right into you.

“Pushing” Someone

Pushing someone on the road means tailgating them, honking the horn or making gestures that imply that you’re trying to pass or get them to go faster. If they’re driving the speed limit, you have no right to do this. If they’re driving way below the speed limit, wait for a safe opportunity to get by and be patient in the meantime. Harassing people on the road causes accidents and you could get in serious trouble if you’re the cause of such an accident.

Remember that you can sue for damages if a negligent driver causes you to get in a wreck, but that they can sue you for negligence, as well. Drive according to the rules and you should be fine. If someone causes you to get into a wreck because of their negligence, contact an attorney to see about filing a claim against them.
