A Two-year-old Hood County girl was killed when
a television tipped over onto the girl, local authorities say. According to the Dallas News, toddler Cheyenne Newton was standing next to a 36-inch tube television while her uncle was installing a new DVD player. The television fell on top of the girl.
The mother called 911 and emergency responders attempted to save the girl, but she was soon pronounced dead. Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds told reporters that no charges would be made in the case and that it was being treated as an accident.
Each year,
hundreds of children are injured by falling furniture and attempts to climb furniture. Especially top-heavy furniture, such as bookcases and entertainment systems, can topple over onto children causing injury and death. Many manufacturers now include hardware that will anchor furniture onto your wall and prevent these child injuries.
