How to Be the Best Client for Your Attorney

There are things you can do as a client which can help your attorney (and your case) tremendously.

If you've hired an attorney and are moving forward with a personal injury claim, you'll want to make certain that you're working with your attorney and not against them.
The attorney will be responsible for guiding you through the process of filing and for arguing your lawsuit. They will also take care of other situations that may arise. Make certain that you exercise some common sense when you are involved in a lawsuit by following these steps.

Help Your Attorney help You!

Don't talk to the defendant.

First, remember that you shouldn't be talking to the defendant under any circumstances while your lawsuit is pending. Anything you say to them could end up ruining your case. If you need to have communications with them, it will be facilitated by both of your attorneys. Your attorneys will know what to say and what not to say, and most importantly, they'll know when there is actually no need for you to say anything at all.

Turn in all records and information.

Second, make sure you give the attorney all of the information you have. If you have any kind of paperwork, it's a good idea to let them know so they can determine whether or not they need it. Different attorneys will have their own way of going through paperwork and of discovering information about your case that favors you. If they ask you for additional items along the way, do your best to find them as they may help you win your claim.

Understand that there are no guarantees.

Third, understand that even if your attorney is confident in the strength of your case, there's no guarantee that your lawsuit will win. This will be up to the jury if an agreeable settlement cannot be reached. Your attorney will do their best to argue your claim in a convincing manner. The jury, however, will be the ones that will decide whether or not you get some, all, or none of the award. A settlement is a guaranteed payout, but the sum will likely be less than the amount you are seeking from a lawsuit. Your attorney will help you determine whether or not it's worth it for you to take a settlement being offered by the other party.
