Jefferson County Woman Sues Doctor For Botched Tubal Ligation

The Southeast Texas Record reports that a Texas woman is suing her doctor and the hospital where she allegedly received a botched tubal ligation in 2008.

The medical malpractice lawsuit, which was filed in Jefferson County District Court, accuses Dr. William N. Hawkins and Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital of a surgical error that resulted in an unsuccessful tubal ligation. Rekenya Allen became pregnant with her fourth child after the tube tying procedure despite the fact that the surgery was expressly to prevent future pregnancies. According to a medical expert, the doctor and hospital breeched the standard of care by failing to successfully perform the surgery.

Allen had three children under the age of seven at the time of her fourth pregnancy. She is suing the hospital and doctor for impaired ability to earn income, physical impairment, physical disfigurement, deterioration of physical and mental condition, medical costs, and exemplary damages.
