Katy Woman Sues After Doctors Allegedly Leave Behind Medical Scissors
Almost a decade after a Texas woman gave birth to a child via caesarean section, doctors made a shocking discovery: the medical professionals who conducted the operation left behind a pair of medical scissors in the woman’s abdomen.Grace Kehinde says that she has been plagued by mysterious medical issues and pains since the birth, but only recently discovered the medical instrument lodged inside her body. It was removed in yet another surgical procedure after it had punctured her bowel.
Now, Kehinde has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the two doctors she believes are responsible: her primary care physician, Dr. Carlos Mayo and her obstetrician Dr. Gregory Obi. The surgery took place at Bayou City Medical Center in southwest Houston in 2001.
Perhaps the most frightening part of this story is that one of the doctors, Carlos Mayo, has a history of medical malpractice, according to the Texas Medical Board. At the beginning of his career, he dealt with five different medical malpractice incidents before moving to Texas with a restricted medical license. In 2010, his medical license was suspended due to improper billing practices. The other doctor, Gregory Obi, has faced two medical malpractice lawsuits, though both were eventually dismissed.
Discovering that a medical tool or other item was left in your body during an operation is much more common than most know or would like to think. If you or a loved one have suffered because of a foreign object left in your body cavity, speak with a TX medical malpractice attorney today.
