Lasik Eye Surgery Malpractice - When Hindsight Is Not 20/20 - Being Aware of Lasik Dangers Before Surgery

It used to be that the only choices for those with poor eyesight were to wear glasses, contact lenses or go on living in a sometimes foggy world. In recent years though, a new procedure called Lasik has become available promising to free many vision challenged people from the confines of corrective lenses. But medical malpractice can occur in Lasik eye surgery cases.

Lasik eye surgery seemed like the Holy Grail to many of those who were tired of reaching for their glasses on the bedside table each morning or dealing with dry, red eyes from leaving their contacts in for too long the day before. As with many new treatments though, the reality may not be as incredible as it seemed. There are lasik dangers that prospective patients need to be informed about before making a decision.

As explained on Medic8.com, Lasik involves a surgeon cutting a small flap on the surface of the eye and then using a special laser to reshape the cornea, in an attempt to correct or improve nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. There are also some clinics now offering bladeless lasik procedures that do not involve cutting a flap on the eye because they use high energy lasers.

However, there are several laser eye surgery risks to be aware of when considering the treatment. According to Lasik Dangers Exposed.org, the procedure can have bad outcomes including vision loss, glare, halos or double vision and permanent dry eye. Also, few people end up with 20/20 vision after having the procedure, and some will have results that lessen over time.

Many people are very pleased with the results they get from Lasik eye surgery, but there are times when the procedure does not provide the intended result. If you have vision problems resulting from laser eye surgery, or believe that your eye surgeon committed medical mistakes or was negligent in his treatment, it may be a case of medical malpractice.

The Rasansky Law Firm handles Lasik malpractice cases and would be happy to offer you a Free Consultation. Please out the contact form or call us at 1 800 ATTORNEY (288-6763) or (214) 747-HELP (4357).
