Motor Vehicle Accident Lawyer | Three Summer Driving Hazards
Summer is known for being one of the best and most enjoyable times to be out on the roads. Unfortunately, it's also one of the times when your chances of getting into an accident are much higher. All those other drivers on the road constitute potential hazards, and you need to make sure you give some of them a wide berth. Here are a few things to watch out for:
1. The Party Wagon
A car, truck or van full of young people out for a good time is always something to be wary of. Young people tend to take more risks when they're driving, and that means that they present more of a hazard to the other drivers around them. Be sure you keep well back if they're driving recklessly and that you just let them pass if they're driving too fast. Arms hanging out the window, swerving and other reckless behavior is a sign that they may be a hazard.
2. Bicycles
Bicycles are a common sight during the summer, and they're sometimes hard to see. Keep an eye out for bicyclists. This is particularly true during the twilight hours. They may not have lights on their bikes or, even if they do, they may not have thought to turn them on. When you're pulling to the right to make a turn, make sure to head check the bike lane to make sure it's clear, as well.
3. Children
School's out for summer, and that means that the residential streets are full of children playing. Do them a favor and slow down a little bit. Be sure to keep an eye out for children running toward the road from their yards. Younger children, especially, tend to get fixated on what they're doing and will oftentimes not even notice if a car is coming down the road at them. Watch out when backing out of your driveway, as well.
If you're out biking or just enjoying a drive and a negligent driver hits you, contact a motor vehicle accident lawyer. If you were injured by a commercial or municipal vehicle, check with a bus accident lawyer. Unfortunately, negligent drivers, even professional ones, sometimes do make summer a dangerous time of year but an attorney may be able to help you get compensated for your injuries with a settlement or jury award.
