New Texas Law Requires Extra Training for Daycare Workers
It’s the beginning of the year, which means new resolutions, new beginnings, and – perhaps most importantly – new laws going into effect. One of the 21 new laws that went into effect in Texas on January 1, 2012 may help curb incidents of Dallas daycare abuse and daycare neglect. This week, Texas Senate Bill 265 officially went into effect. The law requires some daycare workers to undergo more extensive training before beginning their jobs, depending on the age range of the children they care for. In some cases, daycare workers that were previously required to have eight hours of training will now be required to have 25 hours of training.
In addition, the new Texas daycare law will require daycare centers to conduct more extensive background checks on new hires.
Many kid safety advocates are praising the new law, which they believe will keep children healthier and prevent Texas daycare abuse and neglect. However, some are concerned that the new state daycare regulations will raise the costs of daycare for parents.
