Senior abuse in homecare scenarios is particularly dangerous. These are also particularly bad situations for elderly neglect. In a regular nursing home, there is a chance that an abusive employee or an abusive situation will be noticed by one of the trustworthy staff members and reported, resulting in it being put to an end. In a homecare situation, there is much less supervision. There are some resources that you'll have, however, that you have to learn how to use.

Other Employees

Most of the time, there will be a few different employees that rotate in and out during the course of the week to provide care to homecare patients. If you suspect that one of them might not be up to the job, you can speak with the others to see what they think. Asking simple questions about whether or not they have to do work to catch up with what the other employees miss and so forth may reveal a lot. If there is abuse going on, however, it's best to have a doctor take a look at your loved one so that they can check for the common signs of it.

The Agency

Make very sure that you thoroughly vet any agency from which you contract homecare services. Not all of them are equal, by any means. You'll need to make sure that they background check all of their employees. You'll also need to make sure that any licensing requirements are met and that the agency has the proper types of insurance. While you should take care of this before you hire the agency to provide homecare service, there are occasions when you may want to double check after having already hired them to make sure that everything is still being run correctly, particularly if you suspect that something may be going on with your loved one.

After the Fact

If it turned out that your loved one was abused by the employee of a homecare agency, you may have an option to sue them. This is something that you'll have to explore with the assistance of a qualified attorney. They'll meet with you for free in most cases and allow you to find out whether or not it might be in your interest to file a lawsuit against the agency. You may receive a jury award or compensation from a settlement with the company if you do file a lawsuit against them.
