Nursing Home Negligence | Fighting Against Abuse
Fighting Against Nursing Home Negligence
Nursing home negligence puts some of the most vulnerable members of society at risk. When there is abuse in nursing home environments, it's sometimes very difficult for the people that are the victims of the abuse to reach out and to speak to someone about it. Part of this usually comes from feelings of shame and embarrassment and part of it comes from the fear of retaliation from the members of the staff responsible for the abuse. If you want to help someone fight back against nursing home mistreatment, it starts by learning to recognize the signs that might be going on.
Oftentimes, someone who's being abused in a nursing home will start to seem generally depressed. This is understandable, of course, but it's also hard to determine the cause of the depression, in some cases. This is because, as many people get older, they tend to become a bit more withdrawn as their friends pass away and they lose people to connect with. When it happens suddenly, however, it's usually a warning sign. Most people who suffer from conditions such as depression have a long history of it and suddenly having a personality change for the worse is a sign that something may be wrong. There may be a medical reason for it, of course, but it also may be because they are being abused in some fashion.
You also need to learn to follow your instincts in these situations. Quite often, people who have an elder that is in an abusive facility will get a bad feeling about one of the staff members. They may notice that the staff member seems to be impatient with the residents at the nursing home or that they don't seem to be particularly skilled at their job. These are both warning signs and they should be brought up with the administration of the nursing home.
One of the best resources you have for finding out if abuse is going on is your physician. If you can't get your elder out of the nursing home facility, consider bringing the doctor in to have a look at them. Quite often, people will tell things to their doctor that they wouldn't tell to anyone else. If there is physical abuse going on, the doctor will be able to notice the signs of it and it is very hard to conceal this type of abuse from someone when they have the medical expertise of a physician.

Whether he or she has handled the particular type of case in which you want to hire him for
-
Whether he or she has ever written any books on the subject for which you are hiring them
