Parents Sue Prairie View Frat After Deadly Hazing Incident Last Year
The parents of a Texas college student who died during a hazing incident in 2009 are suing both the individual members of a fraternity and the fraternity itself for wrongful death. In October of 2009 at Prairie View A&M, Dallas resident Donnie Wade II was participating in an illegal hazing act when he collapsed and died. The potential fraternity brothers were allegedly in the middle of intense physical drills when the 20-year-old student collapsed from medical issues that were exacerbated by his activity. Instead of calling 911, the frat brothers put the young man in a car and drove him 30 miles to a hospital were he was pronounced dead upon arrival. This was the seventh incident in as many years.
Although the schools said that they have no tolerated the incidents, many wonder whether or not they are doing enough to prevent similar incidents. This year, the Texas college will hold anti-hazing workshops.
