Dangerous Valentine's Toys! | Unsafe Products

Recalled Teddy Bears a Sad Reminder

Target Corp, prompted by Attorney General Jerry Brown, recently pulled an unknown number of Valentine's Day "Message Bears" from their store shelves after the Chinese made bears were found to contain unsafe levels of lead in their vinyl lettering.

CHild with bear

One is a pink bear with "XOXO" across the chest and the other is a brown bear holding a message that says "I love U", the love represented by a red heart. The bears were sold by Target's own, in-house brand.

The nonprofit consumer watchdog group, Center for Environmental Health, found the levels of lead in the bears to be nearly 10 times the safe limit for children 12 years and younger. Unusually high levels of lead can lead to severe health problems for children, including damage to the nervous system and other vital organs.

Attorney General Brown has asked Target to facilitate any means of return, whether the customer has a receipt or not.

A Sad Reminder

This situation is a sad reminder that although companies are required to abide by laws and regulations meant to keep children and consumers safe from dangerous substances; they are not always as dedicated to consumer safety as they should be.

Even though Target acted promptly, recalled the bears and immediately stopped selling them, there may be parents out there who are not aware of the recall and will more than likely give these bears to the children having no idea the dangers they pose to their child's safety.

Sadly, situations such as this are a common occurrence, and they sometimes result in injury or death for children who come in contact with a poisonous toy, defective crib, or any number of other unsafe products. Even though there are laws set forth to try and prevent these situations, they don't always stop manufacturers, whether by negligence or by choice.

Because of this, there are also laws that entitle victims of such cases to damages whenever they or someone they love are injured or killed by unsafe, poisonous or defective products. The Rasansky Law Firm is experienced in fighting for those who have been the victim of unsafe products of all kinds. If you or someone you know has had their life negatively affected by the negligence of a company or manufacturer, contact us at 1-877-405-4313 or fill out our free case evaluation form.
