Texas Father Shares Tragic Story About Texting and Driving

Students at Vista Ridge High School in Leander, Texas learned a lesson that many won't soon forget. The students were visited by Louis Neil, the father of a former student at the school.

Last spring, Neil's son Scott said goodbye to his parents and jumped into his car - it was the last time that they saw him alive. Evidence from the crash scene revealed that the teen had been texting while driving when he lost control of his car and slammed into a tree. An investigation by police showed that driver distraction was the primary cause of the fatal Texas car accident.

Although Neil stated that he can't bring his son back, he can take steps to honor his memory. He wanted to share their hard lesson about texting and driving with the seniors at Scott's old school in order to make sure no other parents had to go through the pain that he feels.

After the talk, the students signed a pledge agreeing that they would not text while driving.

Texting while driving is the cause of far too many teen traffic accidents in Texas. If you have a teen, be sure to talk to them about distracted driving. If you or your teen has been injured in a Texas distracted driving crash, be sure to speak with a Dallas personal injury attorney.
