Texas Nursing Home Investigated After Suddenly Closing Its Doors
The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Service has launched an investigation into the sudden closure of the Calvert Nursing Home. The case began after the adult care facility did not give the state or the residents the appropriate warning before closing their business.
Calvert Nursing Home, a 32-bed facility located on Browning Street, had a history of nursing home neglect claims, nursing home code violations, and other related issues including four violations in the last year.
The nursing home changed ownership this summer and began moving its residents from the facility to others in the area in October. The owners of the home did not give the required sixty days' notice to Texas officials that they were closing their doors, nor did the facility alert the residents' families with a legally-obligated thirty days' notice of closing.
The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Service followed up with the 17 residents who were moved from the home and examined them for signs of abuse or neglect. They say an investigation into the why the home closed suddenly will follow.
