Texas Nursing Home Staffer Charged With Injury To An Elderly Person
A Texas nursing home employee has been arrested and charged with injury to an elderly person following an alleged nursing home abuse incident at Wesleyan Nursing Home in Georgetown. Witnesses to the alleged elder abuse said frustration seemed to be the cause of the attack.According to local news sources, nursing home staff member Ella Jean Moorer was assisting an 88-year-old nursing home resident with his clothing when he resisted her attempts to help him dress. Moorer became frustrated, but the man in a headlock, walked him to a bathroom, and allegedly tried to put his head in a toilet. While the patient did not seem to immediately suffer any injury, he was later examined for chest pains.
Perhaps the saddest aspect of this story is that frustration was the cause of this elder abuse – and that frustration is most probably a common feeling for many nursing home abusers. Unfortunately, many nursing home workers are confronted with long hours, understaffing, poor benefits, and poor pay. These conditions can lead to feelings of anger, resentment, and frustration toward patients. While these are certainly not excuses for them to physically or emotionally abuse patients, it is important to understand that poor conditions for workers can lead to abusive environments.
