Toddler Mauled To Death By Grandfather’s Pit Bull

A Rusk County toddler was mauled to death by a pit bull at his grandfather’s home, authorities said. Two-year-old Kaden Muckleroy loved animals, the family said, and wandered outside to an area where a pit bull was chained to a tree. It is unclear who was watching the child at the time of the deadly dog attack or whether the dog in question had a history of violence or aggression.

The Rusk County Sheriff’s Department said that the property contained about thirty mixed-breed dogs and that they are investigating whether or not the property owners may be involved in dog fighting or another illegal activity with the animals. All of the dogs have been taken into custody.

The Rusk County Sheriff told reporters that he believes some kind of legislation should be passed regarding dangerous dog breeds like pit bulls, and that pit bulls should simply not be allowed to be around young children.

This is the second serious dog attack in East Texas this week.
