Toyota Stops Selling 8 Models of Cars

Toyota better get it right this time - on the heels of a tragic and deadly accident in South Lake, Texas - Toyota said that it will stop selling temporarily 8 models of its popular vehicles, including the Camry and Corolla. Toyota better figure out how to resolve the gas pedal and its accelerator pedal problems so no more innocent vitims die or become tragically injured.

This Toyota announcement comes just days after Toyota recalled 2.3 milion vehiclesto fix accelerator or gas pedals  That recall affected the following cars and vehicles:

1. 2009-2010 RAV4,
   
2. 2009-2010 Corolla,
   
3. 2009-2010 Matrix,
   
4. 2005-2010 Avalon, 
5. 2007-2010 Camry, 
6. 2010 Highlander,
   
7. 2007-2010 Tundra; and
   
8. 2008-2010 Sequoia.

And this latest recall, following a bad couple of months for Toyota where Totoya recalled 4.2 million vehciles over its concerns that its cars were experiencing sudden acceleration problems because the gas pedals got stuck or lodged under floor mats.

Toyota better gets its story straight and fix the problems - is the problem with stuck gas pedals bor gas pedals ecoming stuck or lodged behind floor mats or is it a more serious problem as Toyota says that the actual problem may be mechanical related.

Toyota claims "in certain rare circumstances" there is eveidence that the gas pedal or Toyota accelerator pedal mechanism wears down, causing the gas pedal or accelerator to become more difficult to press down, slower to return, and, in some cases, stuck. Toyota states that this problem stems to "build-up of condesation on sliding surfaces in the accelerator system." This system is the very system that is supposed to drivers push down and release the gas pedal.

And remarkably, Toyota has no fix for the problem. I have no doubt that we will learn soon enough that Toyota has known about these issues for quite some time and therefore, should have taken much sooner corrective action. Toyota's actions come way too late for those  Californians and Texans who died in what seems to be an accelerator pedal problem.

 

All we know is that this is a serious problem that must be remedied and fix now. The NHTSA that the problem is a a serious safety issue and we are pleased Toyota is taking immediate action to address it."
