Travis County Woman Files First Salmonella Egg Lawsuit
An Austin woman who was made ill by salmonella last month has become the first Texan to file a lawsuit regarding the recent egg food poisoning outbreak. A recent press release announced that Amanda Sanchez has filed a lawsuit in Travis County that seeks compensation for her the medical expenses, which reached $25,000 after a four-day stay in the hospital.Sanchez says that she contracted food poisoning on June 26 after eating at Taco Cabana. The Travis County Health Department confirmed that she had suffered from salmonella, which caused vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fever. She was treated at Seton Hospital Northwest.
The lawsuit has been filed against two egg producers involved in the recent tainted egg scandal – though Sanchez’s case has not yet been connected to the eggs involved in the recall.
The salmonella egg lawsuit names egg producer Wright County Eggs, egg producer Hilldandale Farms, and Mexican restaurant Taco Cabana.
