Truck Accidents Cause Delays and Serious Damage

There are millions of 18 wheeler trucks on the roads of the U.S. these days transporting different foods, goods and products from manufacturers to retailers. Trucks are the largest vehicles on the roads, some 40 times larger than passenger cars, and can cause serious damage if involved in truck crashes.

According to Truckinfo.net, each year there are 41,000 to 45,000 fatalities from traffic accidents. Of those fatalities, roughly nine percent are killed in tractor trailer accidents. Protect yourself from truck crashes by knowing your surroundings, not driving in the blind spot of a truck and not illegally passing a truck.

Truck accidents cause serious traffic delays across the country even if the accident is not serious. These accidents cause so many delays because they take longer to remove from the highway after a collision. Truck accidents can cause not only serious damage and injury to other vehicles and people but they can also cost millions of dollars in lawsuits and settlement deals with insurance companies.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration states the top five states in regards to truck fatalities in the United States are:

  • Texas: 438
  • Florida: 343
  • California: 332
  • Pennsylvania: 213
  • Georgia: 208

Truck accidents are rarely caused by the driver of the truck being under the influence of alcohol. In fact, only one percent of fatal truck accidents are caused by the driver being under the influence of alcohol.
