Summer comes with fun and outdoor activities, but unfortunately it also comes with
higher rates of drowning for children and teens. This was certainly the case in Dallas-Fort Worth this week, when two young men died in separate lake accidents in the area.
The first accident took place at 8 AM on Sunday morning, when 19-year-old man went
swimming in Lake Ray Hubbard and disappeared a short time later. Rescuers were able to recover the man’s body. It is unclear whether the man could swim or how he found trouble at the lake.
In the second Texas swimming accident, 15-year-old Darrion Powell drowned at Joe Pool Lake in Tarrant County at Lynn Creek Park on Saturday. He was pulled from the water and rushed to an Arlington hospital where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner’s office has ruled his death an accident. It is not clear if there were warning signs at the lake or if Powell was supervised.
