Unsupervised Newborn Killed by Family Dog in Cypress, Texas

A 13-day-old baby has died after being attacked by the family dog in a quiet neighborhood in Cypress, Texas.

According to local news sources, the baby boy was in a swing in a room in the home while the boy's mother watched the swing from outside of the house. She watched as the dog approached the baby, sniffed, and then attacked. The baby's grandfather was also in the home at the time of the Texas dog attack, but was not supervising the baby.

The grandfather called 911 and emergency responders were soon on the scene. The baby was airlifted to a Texas hospital by a medical helicopter, but died of his injuries a few hours after the dog bite incident.

The District Attorney's office is investigating the fatal dog attack incident in order to determine if negligence charges are necessary. The dog - a 100-pound lab mix - is being quarantined at a local animal shelter.

This tragic story is a sad reminder to all parents to never leave a baby or a small child in the same room with a dog - even if it is the family pet that you don't believe is aggressive or dangerous. Even dogs without a bite history can lash out against a new addition to the family. Children can also accidentally instigate an attack by falling on a dog or pulling its fur or ears.

If you or a loved one has been harmed in a dog attack in Texas, speak with a Houston dog attack lawyer today about your case.
