Distracted Driving Kills Kaufman Boy

A 7-year-old Kaufman, Texas boy was killed on January 6, 2011, when a driver failed to heed the stop signals on his school bus.  The young boy was crossing the street when Salvador Hernandez ignored the bus's flashing lights and stop sign; passing the bus and hitting the young child in front of his two brothers who were walking behind him.  Hernandez is now facing charges of involuntary manslaughter.  It is not yet clear what caused his distracted driving or why he failed to recognize the warning signs.

This recent heart-wrenching event is yet another reminder of the improtance of attentive driving, especially druing the school year.  With school bus stops and children coming from and going to school, the risk of a fatal accident increases exponentially.
