Vehicle Accidents | Negligent Driving
How to Deal with Negligent Drivers
You've probably dealt with drivers that were being negligent, though you may have had much different words to describe their behavior. Negligence means not taking reasonable precautions that could be expected of any other person in the same situation. When you're on the road, you'll see people being negligent all the time. To avoid being in a wreck with them, remember the following.
Tailgaters
Tailgating is one of the most dangerous things a driver can do on the road. When someone is right up on you, there is virtually no chance that they could stop without slamming into you if you had to hit your brakes to avoid a hazard. There are good and bad ways to deal with this.
The right way to deal with a tailgater is either to slow down and force them to pass you or, if you can, to speed up and get ahead of them a bit. Only do the latter if you can do so without exceeding the speed limit. If you pass a police officer, they're going to see you first and you can guess who's going to get the ticket.
The wrong thing to do is to tap your brakes to try to intimidate the tailgater into backing off. More often than not, you're just inviting an accident if you do this. In fact, you're creating exactly the situation that is the most dangerous one if you have someone tailgating you in the first place.
Distracted Drivers
These drivers are all over. They're talking on their cell phones, texting, checking their radios and who knows what else. There is a certain class of people out there who pay attention to everything except the road when they're behind the wheel. Give these drivers a lot of space and be aware that they don't see you, even if they're looking right at you.
When a negligent driver causes you injury or property damage, there's no reason that you should have to pay the costs that result from it. Contact a good Dallas auto accident lawyer to help you file a lawsuit. They will sometimes offer their services as a vehicle accident lawyer without charging your upfront fees and, if they do, you can take your case all the way to court without having to worry about paying. If you lose your case and you're on a contingency agreement with them, you don't have to pay them at all.
