2006 Rising Star Award Recipient: Jeremi Young

Rasansky Law Firm Attorney Jeremi Young has been singled out as a "Texas Rising Star" by Texas Monthly magazine. Rising Stars are chosen from nominations made by lawyers throughout Texas.

Jeremi concentrates his practice on representing individuals in catastrophic personal injury cases, complex business litigation, employment litigation, and wage-and-hour claims.

“We’re extremely proud to see Jeremi receive this honor two years in a row,” says Jeff Rasansky, founder of the affiliate firm, The Rasansky Law Firm in Dallas. “His legal abilities are well-known in the legal community, and we are happy to see other lawyers recognizing his good work on behalf of clients.”

Recently, Jeremi has received national media attention following a favorable ruling from the Wisconsin Supreme Court in a case involving an 11-year-old boy with cerebral palsy. In the decision, the Wisconsin high court ruled that there is no statute of limitations for claims against health care providers in cases involving developmentally disabled children.

In June of 2005, Jeremi opened the office of Rasansky & Young, P.C. in Amarillo an affiliate of The Rasansky Law Firm.

A panhandle native, Mr. Young graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock before earning his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin.

Rising Stars are the top up-and-coming Texas attorneys who are 40 or younger or have been in practice fewer than 10 years.

This year’s Rising Stars are being honored in the March issue of Texas Monthly. They are profiled in the current issue of Texas Rising Stars, a publication co-produced by the publishers of Texas Monthly and Law & Politics Media, Inc.

Teddy Bears May Cause Cancer / Learning Disabilities

Researchers are finding dangerous levels of banned chemical pollutants in several stuffed animals and teddy bears and is cause for alarm in the United States.

As scientists took the teddy bears apart, pieces from the outer skin and the inner stuffing were placed in winding, bending tubesin which solvents, acids and heat extracted concentrated levels of flame retardants and pesticides -- up to 68,000 nanograms per gram.

These unsafe levels of chemicals are capable of causing a range of medical problems from learning disabilities to cancer.

While researchers were looking for flame retardants, they also looked for pesticides and the results were astonishing.

Although scientists expected to find flame retardants, they were surprised to discover high levels of pesticides, like DDT and chlordane, toxic bug killers that have been banned in the U.S. for years.

Further testing thus far has shown that washing does not appear to help the situation. Concerned parents may have a potential product liability claim.

If you think your child has been exposed to chemicals or toxins from a stuffed animal, and may be injured as a result, you could have a potential products liability claim against the manufacturer and distributor of the potentially dangerous stuffed animal.  Please contact the attorneys at the Rasansky Law Firm so that we can help investigate this matter on your behalf.

Birth Control Patch Study Shows High Risk Of Blood Clots

A recent Ortho Evra birth control patch study has shown that women taking Ortho Evra as their birth control method have doubled their risk of developing blood clots in comparison with women who take the birth-control pill, according to The Food and Drug Administration.

A twofold increase in the risk of venous thromboembolic events, or clots in the legs and lungs, was found in women using the patch.

A previous study also reports the finding of higher rates of blood clots in women using the patch.

Current on-going studies are also looking at the risk of heart attacks and strokes among users of the contraception.

Dangerous birth control patch side effects are related to coagulation and the increased risk of blood clots that can cause deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke, and heart attack.

Blood Clots have been reported in patients who were taking or had recently taken the Ortho Evra Patch. Blood Clots that form in the brain can cause a stroke.

Furthermore, the Ortho Evra birth control patch has been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer and wrongful death.

If you or someone you know has been using the Ortho Evra birth control patch or other birth control related patches / birth control pills and has suffered a stroke, heart attack, death or any other injury while on the birth control patch, you could have a potential products liability claim against the manufacturer of the potentially dangerous birth control patch or birth control pill.
