If you’re one of the millions of people who commute back and forth to work every day, you face some unique threats. Most of the time, the roads in major cities move fairly smoothly. There are times of day, however, when they become packed with traffic and when special precautions are necessary.

iStock_000004741124XSmallThe most important thing to remember in heavy traffic is that your visibility is very limited. You could have a big rig crash not far ahead of you and not see it until you’re too close to do anything to steer clear. You also end up having to go with the flow of traffic, which can sometimes be dangerous, especially if it feels like it’s moving too fast. It’s not a bad idea to get off of the road, if you can, to avoid becoming part of a pile up. Particularly in slippery road conditions, speeding along in the middle of a large group of cars is the last place you want to be.

Drivers who are in a hurry cause far too many accidents every year. When you’re caught in traffic, you sometimes won’t be able to get to your exit or your turnoff when you need to. If you’re putting yourself at risk by aggressively getting over, leave at a calmer exit and backtrack to where you need to get off. It’s better to add a few extra miles to your trip than to add hours at the side of the road with a wrecked vehicle, or worse.

There are times when someone driving in heavy traffic will run into you simply out of one form of negligence or another. They may not be looking at what’s going on around them or they may be driving too aggressively, but such drivers cause a lot of damage to those around them. If you’re struck by such a driver, you should consider filing an accident or personal injury claim. A Dallas automobile wreck attorney can consult with you and see if you have a claim that’s likely to win. You may be able to get a free consultation with one of these lawyers.

Filing a claim against someone who causes you to get into a wreck is sometimes the best available option. If you find yourself injured, with destroyed property and facing all the expenses that go along with those situations, it may be your only option.
