Car Rollover Crashes from Manufacturer Negligence

Car rollovers are a big problem that plagues the U.S. highways and can sometimes be the result of product liability from automobile manufacturers. A vehicle rollover is defined as an automobile that tips onto its side or roof during any portion of a vehicle accident. This dangerous result from car wrecks increases the likelihood that there will be injuries or death. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, the proportion of automobiles that resulted in fatal rollover crashes was four times as high as general injury crashes.

What Can Cause a Car Rollover?
According to safercar.gov, there are many reasons why a car rollover happens but given the right conditions any car has the potential to rollover. However more than 40 percent of fatal rollover crashes involve high speeds. Below are a few other reasons how a car rollover can happen:
  • Impairment - Close to half of all fatal car rollover wrecks can be attributed to alcohol or drug impairment. When drinking and driving, a person's vision, judgment and coordination are negatively affected. The same is for prescription drugs and narcotics.
  • Location - Close to 75 percent of car rollovers happen in rural areas. In smaller towns, roads usually are undivided two-way roads or divided roads without barriers. A car can be tripped by soft soil from the side of the road. This can greatly increase the chance of a suv rollover.
  • Improper Tire Pressure - It is important to maintain proper tire pressure and check for worn tires to prevent a car rollover. When a car has tires that are improperly inflated, it limits the ability to control the vehicle. Worn tires have a tendency to slide on wet/slippery pavement.
  • Unbalanced Vehicle Load - Many drivers choose to load luggage on roof racks. This can contribute to a vehicle rollover due to the automobile's center of gravity being altered.
  • Incorrect Maneuvering - Most car rollovers occur when drivers overcorrect their steering while driving. This can happen due to someone avoiding something directly ahead by swerving to the side at high speeds.
