End of the Year Motorcycling

If you're an avid rider, there isn't much that's going to get you off of your bike. Some particularly dedicated riders can be found out on the roads year-round, but this comes with some particular safety considerations that have to be attended to. End of the year riding is dangerous in ways that riding in the summer is not and you have to be ready to face the elements and the light conditions.

Hypothermia

Remember that the temperature can vary significantly between day and night and between regions. You may start out riding in a very warm environment and, within the space of a couple hundred miles, find yourself almost shivering off of your bike. Carry extra riding gear during the autumn and winter months. Remember that rain can be very cold during this time of year and that leathers aren't known for their quick-drying nature. Wool will keep you warm whether it's wet or dry. Modern fabrics also offer good protection against the elements.

The darkness comes quickly during this time of year and it's important to be ready for it. Make sure you have adequate lighting on your bike and be sure to test it before you take off. Motorcycles are oftentimes very hard for motorists to see and, when the lights aren't what they could be as far as brightness is concerned, you're even less visible. Consider having top of the line lighting installed if you're going to be riding at the end of the year when there's more night than day.

Weather

A bit of rain in the right conditions can turn a road into a skating rink. If you're going to ride at the end of the year, be prepared to have to pull over once and a while because of the weather conditions. You can't outride ice and you can't outride snow. Either is likely to make you lay your bike down, necessitating potentially costly repairs. If you're determined to go riding in the winter, make sure you're constantly aware of the weather forecasts, that you keep an eye on your local weather at all times and that you're willing to wait out a storm if need be. There are significant risks with cold weather riding that you'll have to deal with, no matter what.

If someone injures you on your bike, contact a car accident lawyer in Dallas. An accident attorney may recommend that you sue.
