What is Daycare Neglect?

Daycare neglect is a particularly dangerous form of daycare negligence. It occurs when the employees at a daycare facility simply do not perform their jobs and when children suffer as a result of that fact. There are various ways that this can put children in real danger and cause very real and serious harm.

Neglecting Discipline

daycare abuse attorneyWhen children run wild, they put themselves and other children at risk of getting hurt. Keeping an eye on children is a basic human instinct, even when the person watching out for the child isn’t one of their parents. For some daycare workers who aren't dedicated to their jobs, letting children get away with anything and put themselves in danger is preferable to being bothered with supervising them. When those children get hurt as a result, there is really no one to blame but those employees.

Hygiene

A daycare facility has to be a clean place. Children are at much more serious risk of getting ill than are adults and, while a few colds and flus are unavoidable, the facility should be as clean as possible. If you notice that a facility is dirty, don't take your child there. Daycare facilities that are run out of private houses are at particular risk of being very dirty. There's a reason that residences are called single-family homes and they weren't designed to provide for the needs of many children at the same time.

Medications and Health Issues

Some children have health issues such as asthma and other chronic conditions that require a lot of care. If the staff at a facility isn't attentive to these needs, the child may be at serious risk. To avoid having your child become the victim of such an individual, make sure that everyone who works at the facility is qualified for and dedicated to their job.

Taking Action

When daycare negligence and inaction on the part of employees harm your child, you do have options. Speak with an attorney to see if you could file a lawsuit for damages. There are sometimes time limitations on how long you have to file such a lawsuit, so it's important that you act quickly rather than waiting. If you're not quite certain whether or not you want to sue, at least contact attorneys to see how long you have to wait before you lose the chance. This ensures that you don't miss your chance.
