There are plenty of people in the media who like to characterize society as sue-happy. The way in which this is done is by cherry-picking incidents that make it seem like every product liability claim is an instance of a person who is either overly-greedy or not very bright trying to make a buck without working. This is not at all an accurate reflection of reality. Every year, there are products that are recalled because of design flaws, faulty manufacturing or because they've been marketed in a way that involves untrue or deceptive claims.
For example, on May 20, 2010, the Wal-Mart Corporation recalled several models of General Electric coffeemakers. There were an estimated 900,000 units that needed to be recalled. These were models 169164 and 169165. If you have them, you need to bring them back, as there is a known problem with them posing a fire hazard. In this instance, the company is doing the right thing: they're admitting there's a problem and asking everyone who has one of the problem products to bring it back, no questions asked. This is not the way in which things always unfold, however.

In some cases, companies may try to cover-up, delay or deny that there's anything wrong with their products. They may even try to say that the person who was injured by their product is ultimately to blame for their own injuries and that the company has no responsibility in the affair. Of course, this is all done just to save a buck and that buck is saved at the expense of the consumer. A good attorney will know how to go back through all the relevant paperwork and other information and to pin the blame where it belongs.
There will always be the risk that a product liability case will not pay out and there is no way to avoid this. However, an
product liabilty law attorney is usually very well informed about recalls and will generally know if something is already known to be faulty with a given product. If you've been hurt by a faulty product, you have a right to seek compensation. If that faulty product was the cause of injury, the process of being paid for pain an injury may start with a
product liability lawsuit. There are numerous ways in which people are hurt by faulty products every single year.
