Four Best Ways to Avoid a Wreck
If you looked at all the cases that a motor vehicle accident lawyer takes in any given year, you'd see a lot of similar situations that led to wrecks. Some of the recurrences are predictable, however what's not as predictable is the way that people react prior to the wreck. A lot of times, had the driver acted differently, a wreck could have been avoided. To make sure that you have the best chances of avoiding a crash, remember the following tips.
1. Don't Turn Into Them
When a vehicle is about to hit you and swerves, be sure to move in a direction that takes you behind their path of travel, if possible. Many drivers will panic and swerve in the same direction as the car coming towards them. This is because they're watching the car and reflexively turn toward what they're looking at. Look where you want to go, not where you want to avoid going.
2. Escape Routes
Most drivers getting into a wreck don't bother to look for a way out of it. In the heat of the moment, they look exactly where they're going to hit the other car. Again, make sure you look at your escape route and pay attention to where you could go to get out of the way whenever you're at an intersection.
3. Not Braking
Whenever something looks like it might get bad, slow down right away. Most people have pretty good instincts about when something doesn't seem right with another driver or with the road conditions. Slow down gradually sooner to avoid having to slam on the brakes later.
4. Not Signaling
A very simple thing, signaling, but it's something that many people fail to do, particularly when they're on familiar routes. Remember: Just because you know where you're going doesn't mean that everyone else does. Always signal, even if it's at a stop sign in a parking lot and not on the road.
