Posted on Oct 21, 2010
A bus crash outside of Sanger, Texas, might have been the result of a bus driver’s medical condition. According to the Dallas News, 17 out of 30 passengers were injured in a passenger bus accident that occurred as the bus was headed from Dallas to Oklahoma City on Friday night.
The El Conejo bus, which is owed by Renacimiento LLC, drove off of the road and hit a barrier around midnight. No other vehicles were involved in the bus crash. Injured passengers were taken to two separate hospitals in the Denton area in two large groups of ambulances while several others were treated for minor injuries at the scene of the crash. The uninjured passengers were then transported by school bus to another El Conejo bus, which took them to their final destination.
The bus was traveling northbound on Interstate 35 in Denton County at the time of the Texas wreck. Texas police believe that the bus was traveling at about 60 miles per hour at the time of impact.
The bus driver, Jose Rodriguez of Grand Prairie, disclosed to doctors that he suffered from a medical condition that contributed to the crash. The bus company has not experienced a bus wreck in the last two years and had the highest safety rating possible as given by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. In addition, the bus has been examined and no mechanical problems were found.
