As New Texas Turnpike Opens, Emergency Services Make a Plan
Posted on Dec 31, 2011
The President George Bush Turnpike Eastern Extension officially opened this week, allowing commuters to utilize a faster, easier route to work in North Texas. However, with the new tollway comes the need for a new emergency response plan for the route.
The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be key in making sure that road conditions are monitored and that traffic accidents can be responded to quickly and efficiently. In addition, the Rowlett City Council met with the local police and fire departments to confirm that a plan is in place for issues with the road and for Texas car wrecks in the area.
The safety precautions in place include a NTTA command center along the route, roadway customer service, and multiple security and safety measures. In addition, the NTTA has one truck on duty for every fifteen miles of new roadway. DPS says that the area of the new Turnpike will be patrolled by 30 state troopers. Local Rowlett City police officers will only be expected to take on the duty of responding to President George Bush Turnpike Eastern Extension accidents in the case of major crashes that need additional support.
