College Station Daycare Investigated after Reports of Caretaker Abuse
Posted on Dec 28, 2011
The Covenant Presbyterian Church Children's Center in College Station is under investigation by Texas officials after a number of parents have filed complaints regarding an abusive daycare worker and the daycare center’s reaction to the allegations.
According to College Station news sources, The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services filed six citations regarding the incident in December, all after several parents informed them of the alleged daycare misconduct.
Amy Yessick, a former caretaker at the facility who also sent her child to the daycare, said that she observed another daycare worker slapping a child with another child’s hand – and that when she reported the abuse, she was told not to tell parents about the incident. An investigation that followed found that the daycare worker had employed other inappropriate forms of discipline, including biting and shaking, out of “frustration and enjoyment.” In addition, the citations stated that the director of the daycare had not ensured that the workers were using appropriate forms of discipline and that two workers had failed to report Texas daycare abuse to the appropriate authorities.
The College Station daycare worker involved in the child abuse incidents has been fired. The daycare center itself could face consequences if it does not comply with standards in the future.
