Dallas Boy Dies Trapped In Hot Daycare Van
Posted on Oct 23, 2010
A two-year-old boy died while in the care of a Dallas daycare this month after being left in a hot van for six hours by forgetful daycare employees. Dallas Police say that the boy, Sir Anthony Smith, likely died of hyperthermia after being forgotten in a van for six hours in 93-degree Texas heat in a daycare parking lot.
The toddler was picked up on the morning of September 16, but the driver and daycare monitor failed to transport the boy from the van to the HH Banks Day Care. The boy’s body was discovered when the driver picked up more children for the daycare at a nearby elementary school that afternoon. He was pronounced dead at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. The boy’s parents are calling for charges to be brought against those involved as well as the daycare itself – and may be planning a Texas daycare negligence lawsuit.
The daycare closed its doors the day after the tragic daycare negligence death and is now being investigated by both Texas police and by Child Protective Services.
Unfortunately, incidents like these have taken place in Texas before. In the summer of 2006 in Plano, Jacob Fox died in a hot daycare van owned by Pleasant Grove. The owner of the daycare told employees to take the boy’s body to a park – and later got two years in prison for trying to cover up the death.
