Dallas Firefighter Seriously Injured In Collision With Stolen Car

Posted on Jul 22, 2010

After kidnapping a child and stealing a vehicle, a Texas man ran a red light and slammed into an off-duty Fort Worth firefighter, critically injuring him. The man, who Texas Police say was suffering from mental distress at the time of his arrest, is now facing charges including car theft, kidnapping, leaving the scene of an accident, and endangering a child. The Texas car accident took place just after 11 AM on Monday, July 12, near Bryant Irvin Road and the Southwest Loop 820.

According to the Dallas News, 57-year-old Roy Dorsey stole a Ford F-350 pickup truck before driving to his ex-girlfriend’s home in Fort Worth, where he kidnapped the woman’s four-year-old grandson. The man then sped off, running through multiple red lights and speeding. Multiple witnesses observed Dorsey’s reckless behavior and speeding before the TX car accident took place.

At the intersection of Horn Street and Camp Bowie Boulevard, Dorsey ran a red light and struck a Toyota driven by 25-year-old Mark Puente, a vacation relief firefighter for Battalion 5 on Fort Worth’s west side. Puente, who has worked as a firefighter since 2008, was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition. Dorsey suffered minor injuries, including facial lacerations, in the Texas car accident while the four-year-old was uninjured in the wreck. However, emergency responders brought the child to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth to be examined for internal injuries.
