Dallas Girl Killed When Wrecker Rear-Ends Car With Mechanical Problems

Posted on Jun 17, 2011

A tragic traffic accident took place in the suburbs of Dallas last weekend when a child was killed and her mother seriously injured in a Texas truck accident.

The fatal truck wreck took place on Wednesday night, June 9 in Frisco, Texas, on the State Highway 121 access road. According to the Houston Chronicle, the truck accident occurred when a car suffered mechanical problems and either stalled or slowed down significantly while traveling southbound on the road. A wrecker traveling behind the car slammed into the rear of the vehicle, crushing the back end of the car.

The Frisco Police stated that a nine-year-old girl traveling in the back of the car had been killed in the accident, while her 12-year-old sister and 32-year-old mother had been seriously injured. Both surviving daughter and mother were rushed by emergency responders to the Medical Center of Plano for treatment. The nine-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the wrecker, an unidentified 49-year-old man, was not injured in the wreck.

No charges have been filed against the driver, though police stress that the truck accident is still under investigation. It is as yet unclear what caused the car to stall or slow down in the lane, and the damage the car sustained during the truck accident may mean that investigators never discover the origin of the mechanical problem.
