Dallas Man Falls To Death From Parking Garage
Posted on Jul 31, 2011
A Quinlan man who was taking pictures of the Dallas skyline fell from the third story of a parking garage last week. He died of blunt force trauma to the head shortly after being rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital for treatment.
According to Dallas news reports, 26-year-old Gary Ray Gribble and two friends rode their bikes to the top of a parking garage on Victory Park Lane in order to take pictures of the city. Gribble climbed over several steel cables to reach a higher vantage point – a poorly lit platform that was not protected by walls or guardrails. The man fell from the platform while taking pictures and landed 30 feet below on his head. Authorities say that drugs and alcohol were probably not factors in the fatal fall accident.
The parking garage, which is owned by Anland Block D, L.P., was originally constructed to handle cars from a hotel. The owners of the garage said that they would work with Texas authorities during the investigation, but noted that the man had climbed over a barrier to reach the platform.
It is as yet unclear whether the property posed a danger to those using the garage or whether a premises liability or wrongful death lawsuit will be filed by the victim’s family.
