A father could face serious criminal charges regarding a Dallas car accident that killed his three-year-old son. The car accident occurred in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas when a vehicle pulled out in front of an oncoming Lexus.
According to the Dallas morning news, the Texas car accident took place on Monday, March 18, a few minutes before 1:30 p.m. Witnesses say that the driver, Rafael Arellano Jr., pulled out in front of an oncoming vehicle at the intersection of Harry Hines Boulevard at Wolf Street. When the collision occurred, two passengers in Arellano’s car were ejected out of the back window of the vehicle when the car him a curb, including 3-year-old Rafael Arellano III. The toddler was rushed to the hospital in critical condition following the crash, but later died of his car accident injuries. The other passenger, the boy’s 28-year-old mother, is recovering from serious injuries in a local hospital. The driver of the car that was hit suffered minor injuries.
Dallas Police have reported that although there was a child safety seat in the vehicle, the toddler was likely not properly restrained in the seat and perhaps not riding in the seat at all. The driver of the vehicle will likely face a negligent homicide charge and authorities say that the case will likely be heard by a grand jury.
