"text-align: justify;">A woman was killed at approximately 1am on Tuesday morning when a big rig lost control and rolled into her while she was on the shoulder fixing a flat.
Doris Satterfield, 57, of Dallas was killed at the scene of the accident, while the passeger was takend to Parkland Memorial Hospital. A driver of another vehicle was also injured in the accident and was taken to Baylor University Medical Center.
It is not yet clear if the driver of the truck was injured in the collision. An investigation is still underway to determine the cause of the truck crash.
This is just another sad reminder of the dangers that semi trucks pose to other motorists. Anytime a semi truck is involved in a crash, it is almost always certain to include catastrophic injuries to those that they collide with. The very nature of the trucking industry breeds the opportunity and in some cases, necessity to drive at unsafe speeds, or travel without adequate rest.
It also serves as a somber reminder that it is never safe to change a flat on the shoulder of any busy interstate. It is always worth the risk of a runined tire to find a safer place to repair the flat than on the side of the road.
