Dallas Woman In Wheelchair Dies In Hit-And-Run Accident

Dallas police officers are looking for information and witnesses following a deadly hit-and-run pedestrian accident that took place on the 4700 block of Columbia Avenue near the Colombia Villa Apartments early on Thursday morning.
According to police and witnesses, a 57-year-old Latina woman in a motorized wheelchair was attempting to cross Columbia Avenue in East Dallas just after three in the morning when she was struck by an eastbound vehicle. Witnesses who lived in an apartment near the crash say that they heard a collision and ran to the street, where they found the woman and pieces of her wheelchair strewn across the street. The woman, who apparently struck her head on the curb during the pedestrian accident, died of blunt force trauma at the scene of the wreck. The woman, who has been identified as Mary Jean Castro, was not crossing the six-lane road in a crosswalk at the time of the accident.
